Global University Receives Digitized Translated Courses in Memory of AGWM Missionary Terry Janke

GUjankeDarla Janke, wife of AGWM career missionary associate  Terry Janke, who passed away on August 4, 2012, recently presented Global University and President Dr. Gary Seevers, Jr. with an archived set of 105 Global University courses, translated into Albanian, Greek and Macedonian, and developed into print-ready formats by her husband.

Terry and Darla Janke were appointed as AGWM missionary associates in 1996, at the ages of 50 and 47, respectively. Prior to their missions appointment, Terry worked as a log truck driver and concrete mixer driver, with the physical skill for such, but a burning passion for missions in his heart.

They briefly served at the International Correspondence Institute ( ICI ), now Global University, offices then located in Irving, TX, where Terry was trained in the area of desktop publishing, before an appointment took them to Athens, Greece in 1998. There they were tasked with building a team of translators and editors for ICI courses, and Terry took on the role of desktop publisher – speedily formatting these courses in languages he did not speak or understand into impressive print-ready formats.

In 2005, the Jankes felt the call of God to move to Macedonia, where Terry continued his work of desktop publishing. In all, he collectively formatted105 books. Though their hearts remained with the people and the ongoing missions work in Macedonia, Terry fell ill, and he and Darla were rushed out of the country and back to the states for medical treatment for what was determined to be Glioblastoma Stage 4 brain cancer in 2011. Terry graduated to heaven on August 4, 2012.

Darla continues to be actively involved in missions, currently serving as the registrar for Caribbean School of Theology, providing students access to ministry training throughout the West Indies.

“Terry’s vision was to win the lost through the written word, and he accomplished this by spending close to 15 hours a day working on the computer, as click by click, formatted books were developed in local languages so people who had never heard the Gospel message could finally come to realize the saving truths found within,” reflects Darla.

Craig Mathison, who served as the Jankes’ AGWM area director at the time of their appointment, states, “Most of these people don’t know the name Terry Janke, and they never will. But that’s OK. Terry didn’t give his life for the lost so that anyone would know his name. He gave his life because he loved those people the same way that His Savior loved him. And just being a part of truth getting to them was reward enough.”

The digitized collection of these 105 resources will be placed into Global University’s archives, and be utilized through Global’s School for Evangelism & Discipleship, which offers evangelism and training materials in over 120 languages.
