The Evangel University Humanities Department will present David Auburn’s Proof on Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 14-16.
The play will begin each evening at 7 p.m. and will take place in the Barnett Fine Arts Theater. Tickets are $7 per person, and group tickets (10 or more) are $5 per person. The student rate is $5 per person.
Tickets may be purchased at the door or online.
Senior Christina Jeter will direct the play as part of her drama practicum. Jeter is a double major in English and theater from Waxahachie, Texas.
Catherine, a troubled young woman, has spent years caring for her brilliant yet unstable father, a famous mathematician. Following his death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire; and the attentions of Hal, a former student of her father. Over the long weekend that follows, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: how much of her father’s madness—or genius—will she inherit?
“When I read Proof during my sophomore year at Evangel, I fell head over heels in love with the play,” Jeter said. The storyline of Proof is well-constructed and character driven. It’s one of the best-written plays I have ever read.”
“Proof has many universal themes throughout the story, including trust, fear, family, death and love. I think students should anticipate both an entertaining and thought-provoking production,” Jeter said.
