552 graduates to walk the line Friday, May 3
Evangel University will celebrate its 55th annual graduation ceremony, with a record 552 graduates to walk the line on Friday, May 3, 2013, at 9:30 a.m.
The previous record number of graduates was 494 in 2009.
The ceremony will be held in the main sanctuary at James River Assembly of God in Ozark, Mo. Doors will open at 8 a.m.
Major General Cecil Richardson, who recently retired as U.S. Air Force Chief of Chaplains, stationed at the Pentagon in Washington D.C., will be the commencement speaker.
As a member of the special staff to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Richardson established guidance and provided advice on all matters pertaining to the religious and moral welfare of Air Force personnel.
As Chief of Chaplains, he was the senior pastor for more than 800,000 active-duty, Guard, Reserve and civilian forces serving in the United States and overseas.
Richardson is a 1973 graduate of Evangel. This year’s commencement ceremony will mark his 40th year as an Evangel alumnus.
“It is always a pleasure to have outstanding alumni return and participate in our commencement activities,” said President Robert H. Spence. “I am confident that Chaplain Richardson will give our students and their families an inspirational and challenging message.”
The total includes traditional, graduate, adult studies and James River Leadership Campus students.
The prayer of invocation will be offered by alumnus Dr. Doug Green, lead pastor of North Hills Church in Brea, Calif. He is a 1985 graduate of Evangel and father of 2013 EU graduate Jocelyn Green.
Rev. John Lindell, lead pastor of James River Assembly in Ozark, Mo., will provide the Scripture reading.
The prayer of benediction will be offered by Dr. George Wood, general superintendent of the General Council of the Assemblies of God in Springfield, Mo. He is a 1962 graduate of Evangel.
