About the speaker
Dr. Billie Davis served on Evangel’s faculty from 1981 to 1992 and was instrumental in helping develop the social work program.
Davis grew up in a family of migrant workers during the Great Depression and developed a love of education through her experiences with several nurturing teachers in the many schools she attended as a child. Her story was featured in a 1952 edition of the Saturday Evening Post under the title “I Was a Hobo Kid,” and has since been turned into a movie titled A Desk for Billie.
Davis has authored more than 25 books and was inducted into the Writers Hall of Fame of America in 1999.
