Author and Evangel University graduate Eric Praschan will speak to the student body on Thursday, Jan. 17, during the 10 a.m. chapel time.
Following the presentation, he will have a book-signing party for his first novel, Therapy for Ghosts, in the Evangel bookstore.
Both events are free and open to the public.
Praschan graduated with a B.A. in English from Evangel in 2004.
As a student, he was one of the early members of The Skinny Improv. He was also active in Evangel’s theatre program, holding lead parts in The Importance of Being Earnest, Fiddler on the Roof and Much Ado About Nothing.
His first novel, Therapy for Ghosts, was inspired by health episodes he experienced which left him temporarily paralyzed and mute. During the course of his recovery, he penned the novel with the hope that it will inspire readers to overcome adversity with perseverance and courage.
“Therapy for Ghosts explores what happens when the line between survival and self-destruction becomes hopelessly blurred,” said Praschan.
Sarah Kernochan, the two-time Academy Award winning screenwriter of “What Lies Beneath” and author of Jane Was Here, says: "Eric Praschan's book comes with an amusing premise, charting the meltdown of Cindy James, a cognitive behavioral therapist, who is in critical need of...cognitive behavioral therapy. The story quickly turns serious, as Praschan explores her tortured psyche, leading us to the unimaginable trauma that keeps her imprisoned, like a ghost, in a house already haunted by her childhood tormentors.
“This is a fine and well-written psychological thriller. And I am partial to any male author who seeks — and succeeds — to create a full-dimensioned woman narrator.”
