Southwestern Assemblies of God University student Karla Miller won the Dr Pepper $100,000 Tuition Giveaway scholarship on Friday, November 30.
Miller, a freshman from Hesston, Kansas, submitted a video to the contest describing her desire to win, why she deserved the scholarship and what her future educational plans were.
She was chosen to win a $2,500 scholarship and became one of 15 finalists for the $100,000 scholarship, ultimately competing against grand prize finalist Jacob Desatoff from Costa Mesa, California, for the scholarship.
During the PAC-12 championship football game, Miller completed 18 football throws into a giant Dr Pepper can replica in 30 seconds to win the scholarship. Desatoff took home $23,000 in tuition money by completing 16 football throws.
While the event was hosted by Dr Pepper, Miller says it was the Lord who opened the door for her to enter this contest and provided the funds necessary for her to attend SAGU. Since her parents are ministers trying to put three children through college, Miller says winning the competition was a major blessing for her family.
Miller is currently working toward an associate¹s degree in church ministries and hopes to serve on the mission field as a full-time midwife.
