The Assemblies of God Executive Presbytery recently ratified the Executive Leadership Team appointment of Dr. Marilyn K. Abplanalp to give interim leadership to The Alliance for the Assemblies of God Higher Education (AAGHE) through June 30, 2013.
Abplanalp has been a vice-president for AAGHE faculty and student affairs for more than four years. Prior to that, she served 18 years at Bethany University in Scotts Valley, California most recently as the associate dean for the School of Professional Studies and the director of the Master of Arts in Education.
Having earned a bachelor's degree in English and Bible from Bethany, she went on to earn her Master's degree in Special Education from Santa Clara University and an Ed. D. in International and Multicultural Education from the University of San Francisco.
Abplanalp also was a teacher, principal and worked with her husband, Bob, in two different pastorates.
Abplanalp follows Dr. Robert Cook in leading AAGHE. Cook resigned in August to become lead pastor at Victory Life Church in Grand Junction, Colorado.
"It's an honor to serve in leadership in the Alliance for AG Higher Education," Abplanalp says. "I'm passionate about Assemblies of God Christian higher education, and I'm excited to continue its legacy as we invest in the next generation."
The Abplanalps have been married for more than 41 years and have two married daughters and five grandchildren.
