Whether it's just one sport, indoor sports or a combination of indoor and outdoor sports, many Assemblies of God-endorsed colleges and universities now offer alumni, prospective students and sports fans the opportunity to view many of the schools' sports contests live on the Internet.
In the past, where a college would need to operate its own channel or work a deal with a cable channel, small colleges broadcasting their sports contests was typically not feasible or affordable. But with the onset of high quality digital cameras available at consumer-friendly prices and the enhancement of Internet capabilities, now colleges are able to share the fun and excitement of live games literally with the world.
"AG schools' online streaming of their athletic programs gives alumni a chance to connect and stay current with their alma mater,"says Matt Smith, media specialist for Alliance for AG Higher Education. "Our schools have seen the draw and entertainment value of their athletic events, and Homecoming is a prime example. Also, providing live coverage of an event adds to the 'here-and-now' experience for users."
Several AG colleges are just launching their live-streaming sports programming this year, while others have been live-streaming sports for several years and are expanding their coverage. Colleges offering at least some coverage this year include: Central Bible College, Northwest University, North Central University, Evangel University, Southeastern University, Southwestern Assemblies of God University, Vanguard University and Valley Forge Christian College.
"Many larger schools have limitations to what they can stream and air according to the contracts they have with networks," Smith states. "AG colleges and universities have taken advantage of this limitation, setting them apart from the pack by creating their own entertainment offerings."
