Chemical Plant Fire Impacts SAGU

A massive fire that broke out at the Magnablend Chemical Plant in Waxahachie, Texas, on Monday morning has led Southwestern Assemblies of God University leaders to cancel classes for the remainder of the day due to possible toxic gasses.

According to a press release from the school, faculty, staff and students have been advised to stay inside until further notice. The school's safety and security personnel are in contact with Ellis County emergency personnel, and if it becomes necessary to evacuate the school, students will be bussed to Lakeview Campgrounds in Maypearl, Texas.

Reports state that the smoke from the fire can be seen 30 miles away, in Dallas/Fort Worth. Officials have stated that all employees and visitors had been safely evacuated from the plant and a nearby apartment complex, an elementary school and a junior college have all been evacuated.

According to the Magnablend website, the company manufactures, blends and packages custom liquid and powder chemicals. They service the oil, agricultural and industrial chemical markets, with plants in North Dakota, Wyoming, Pennsylvania and Texas.
