Central Bible College's Athletic Director Kirk Hanson, was awarded the 2009 National Christian College Athletic Association's Sports Ministries Award on June 4, 2009. The award was given in recognition of CBC teams' outstanding commitment to the integration of athletics and ministry. CBC was one of two colleges in the NCCAA to receive the award this year.
Hanson (men's basketball), his wife, Coach Lynn Hanson (volleyball) and Coach Roy Hardy's (soccer) ministry efforts, which is a vital part of a CBC educational experience, showcased how ministry can be integrated with sports. When they travel for competition, the athletic teams from CBC frequently encourage local church congregations with their music, drama and inspirational messages.
Hanson, who is the second winningest men's basketball coach among Missouri's four-year colleges, received the Sports Ministries Award at the NCCAA annual convention recently held in St. Louis.
