Vanguard University (AG, Costa Mesa, California) students were recently announced as the winners of the Audience Award in the 2009 National Geographic Preserve Our Planet PSA (public service announcement) contest. Created by Vanguard communication students Cody Crawford, Josh Hamilton and Scott Houston, "Together We Can Change Our World" is a stop-motion PSA that was produced using natural and sustainable resources.
Nearly 100 PSAs were entered in the annual Preserve Our Planet Film and PSA contest for college students. The National Geographic contest committee narrowed down the entries to the top 20, which were then voted on by a select panel of judges.
PSAs were judged on the basis of three criteria: creativity, reflection of this year's core idea "Together We Can Make a Difference," and visual and story strength. The judges selected a winner and three runner-up finalists, including the Vanguard students' PSA, to compete for the audience award that was determined by online voting, April 1-15.
According to the National Geographic Web site, the Audience Award winner receives $1,000 and an expense-paid trip to attend National Geographic's Explorer's Symposium in Washington, D.C.
The Vanguard students' winning PSA will have its world premiere on the National Geographic Channel on Wednesday, April 22 - Earth Day.
