February 7-10, 2009, The Alliance for AG Higher Education team hosted the 2nd Annual AG Enrollment Summit. Twenty-six enrollment professionals from 18 of the endorsed Assemblies of God (AG) higher education institutions met together at Chateau on the Lake in Branson, MO. This year, the event was held concurrently with the District Youth Directors’ (DYD) Conference to provide the opportunity for strategic interaction between the enrollment officers and the DYDs.
The mission of the four-day summit was to allow admissions personnel from each college to build relationships, which would help them to feel a greater connection with each other and the AG leadership. As a result, enrollment officers would receive a cross-pollination of ideas as well as a sharpening of their skills.
The Alliance team strongly believes that this mission was accomplished. Vice President for Institutional Relations of the Alliance, Dave Moore, stated, “In my opinion, the true value of the Enrollment Summit was that admissions personnel came together in a collaborative spirit to discuss how to further the mission of our Fellowship through our institutions of higher education.” The professionals from the smallest to the largest schools were able to share their experiences, difficulties and ideas to mutually enrich, encourage and strengthen one another.
The Enrollment Summit included a presentation of Alliance initiatives directly related to student recruitment, open forum discussions, small group interaction,a luncheon with the DYDs, and a Q & A session with General Superintendent George Wood. The attendees were also able to interact and build connections informally through meal and free times.
Summit attendee Rose-mary Smith, assistant vice president for enrollment at Northwest University (Kirkland, WA), commented, “I have been in the enrollment field for 16 years and am excited to feel, for the first time, a connection and camaraderie with admissions professionals from the other AG schools across the country. I see the added value of viewing Northwest as part of a larger whole and tying into the strengths and abilities of these talented individuals. I am proud to be part of this group and am very appreciative for the support of Dr. Wood, Bob Cook and the entire Alliance team.”
The Alliance recognizes the on-going value of this conference and plans to host it on an annual or biannual basis.
